So this journey began way back when. Someone gave me a present that sparked a thought, that became a dream, which turned into a plan and now is living reality.
It was a long road to get here but now that I am here, time has gone by so quickly. I have been in Brazil for 2 months!! I know I cannot believe it.
Two months ago, on a very emotional morning, I boarded my first of 3 flights to the other side of the world. I hardly slept and the thoughts of why am I doing this, and I want to go home were buzzing through my mind. The man next to me said it will be amazing and I should be happy I have the opportunity not sad because I am leaving what is familiar and comfortable.
He was right, every moment here has been life changing. The country is beautiful, the people are full of happiness and joy, and the experiences I have had have been amazing. I got to be part of the first Olympics in South America, I got to make friends from different countries, I have been able to volunteer with amazing south american animals. I have been to the iconic sites in Rio, I visited the athletes village hosted by South Africa. I am able to say I was there. I have made memories that will never ever be forgotten, and it is still just the beginning.
Brazil may be a scary place but living in South Africa made it seem like being back at home with slightly more safety. Like I am able to use the public transport and walk around alone in many places.
If I can survive Rio and Brazil as an 18-year-old, who does not look brazilian at all, who doesn’t know the language and never been in the country before then you can too.
I am so grateful I have had this opportunity. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It has been hard, emotional, stressful, exciting, amazing, and most of all an incredible two months I will never forget.
I still have so much more to discover and so many new places to see. I am nearly half way and I cannot wait to see what lies ahead.
I am blessed with what I have and I hope that one day you may be able to see some of the places I have because they will change your life. Brazil is waiting for you, come and find it, do not be afraid.
